Latest Food Recalls

Last week, Campbell Soup Company announced a national recall of 355,000 cans of SpaghettiOs soup. This food recall is attributed to pieces of red plastic being found in the 14.2-ounce cans, which came from the can’s lining. After receiving several complaints, Campbell voluntarily recalled the cans for a potential choking hazard.

Campbell instructs consumers to avoid eating from recalled cans and return them to the store of purchase for an exchange or full refund. Affected cans have a stamp date of February 22, 2017 on the bottom, as well as UPC code 51000 22432 located beneath the barcode.

Another food recall to hit the consumer market recently came from Virginia Diner, Inc. The company’s Wakefield, VA location recently recalled Happy Holidays Pecan Turtledoves Chocolate Caramel Pecan Clusters. These candies are said to possibly contain peanuts and peanut allergens, which can be life-threatening for consumers who are sensitive to peanuts. A consumer reported the issue, leading to a recall on 10-ounce cans with UPC code 0 85582 01155 2 and lot code 092915 PNT. Fortunately, no other Virginia Diner brand products are involved in the recall. The company voluntarily recalled the problem despite no injuries or illnesses being reported.

Food recalls are surprisingly common, so consumers should educate themselves and stay current on the most recent defective items. There have been countless instances of illness as a result of food items that were later recalled, which many times lead to legal suits against the manufacturer. In the event that a food product is sold to the public and leads to injury or death, the company can be held liable. If you or someone you know have been affected in such a way by a food product that was later recalled, contact Jones & Swanson at (770) 427-5498 for a free consultation today.
