Samsung Cell Phone Recall

Technology conglomerate Samsung has voluntarily recalled one of their smartphones. Last month, the phone carrier announced that the lithium-ion battery used in the Galaxy Note7 device had the potential of overheating and catching fire. This poses a serious threat of major burns to telephone users and those nearby. Approximately 1 million units are believed to have been affected by the product defect. Colors included in the recall are blue coral, black onyx, silver titanium and gold platinum – each with a matching stylus. Defective phones have “Samsung” printed on the front of the phone at the top and the back of the phone reads “Galaxy Note7”. They would have been purchased from August 2016 to September 2016 from electronics and phone carrier retail stores, including but not limited to Verizon, Sprint, Best Buy, T-Mobile, AT&T, US Cellular, www.samsung.com, as well as other websites.

The recall from Samsung included further details in that 92 batteries have been reported overheating at this time in the U.S. 26 of those resulted in burns and 55 in some type of property damage, including garage and car fires.

Samsung advises that owners stop using their devices immediately, and to turn off the recalled phones. To find out if your phone is included in the recall, simply locate the IMEI number on the back of the phone or packaging. This number can be entered into the online registration form at www.samsung.com. You can also call Samsung at 844-365-6197 to speak to a representative about the device. To receive a replacement device or refund, Samsung advises owners to contact the retail location or carrier where the device was originally purchased.
