Multiple Toyota Motor Company recalls have been announced this year, affecting approximately 656,800 vehicles total – both Toyota and Lexus models.
First, an electrical issue that posed a threat of air bags not inflating during a crash led to 645,000 vehicles being recalled throughout the world. The production time of the defected vehicles was between May 2015 and March 2016. Toyota stated that an open electrical circuit could possibly transpire over time, leading to the air bag warning light turning on and the front and side bags being prevented from opening. Air bags are meant to prevent injuries in a crash, so lack of deployment could result in serious injuries in the event of an accident. Serial numbers on sensors will be inspected by Toyota and Lexus dealers, and they will replace them for owners at no cost. In addition, Toyota will send letters to owners in late March 2018. The affected Toyota and Lexus models include:
- Lexus RX
- Lexus NX SUVs
- Prius
- Alphard
- Vellfire
- Sienta
- Noah
- Voxy
- Esquire
- Probox
- Succeed
- Corolla
- Highlander
- Levin
- Hilux
The second recall is due to a potential fire risk as a result of fuel pipes and hoses not being connected properly. 2018 Camry vehicles are included in this recall, which is a very common automobile on Georgia roadways. Also included are the Lexus TC-F, GS F and LC 500 vehicles beginning in model year 2015.
