Aerodynamic Bicycle Helmet Recall

Bike helmet recall

As a personal injury law firm, our attorneys represent clients in a variety of matters and areas of practice. Two of those areas of representation include bicycle crashes and product defects or recalls that lead to serious injuries. A recent recall of popular aerodynamic bicycle helmets sold in the United States may affect Georgians in each of those areas of legal representation.

Louis Garneau Sports Inc. announced a recall of approximately 1,180 cycling helmets in 2014. Although it was a voluntary recall and no injuries or deaths had been reported as a result of the potential bicycle helmet product defect, it is important that cyclists using these helmets cease use immediately. At the time of production, each of the affected helmet models passed CPSC requirements to be sold to consumers. In a recent production, however, the helme ts failed safety tests in cold temperatures. Lous Garneau announced a voluntary recall on the affected models in spite of no injuries being reported in an effort to prevent consumers from using the helmets until replaced. The P-09 aero helmets manufactured in January of 2014 with model number 1405362 were included in the recall. They are tear-drop shaped with a tapered tail and rounded front. There is a visor system built into the helmets and vents in the front and rear of the helmets. These helmets were sold between January and September of this year for $280-$350 each. They were sold in three color designs:

  • black, red, and white
  • white, blue, and gray
  • white, silver, and white

If you believe that your aero bike helmet may be included in this recall, you should stop use immediately and contact Louis Garneau USA at (800) 448-1984. Replacements or refunds will be provided.

Not all companies are responsible enough to announce a voluntary recall when their products show signs of danger to consumers. Fortunately, Louis Garneau did. Many injuries may be prevented due to this professional decision to replace potentially dangerous products. In those situations where manufacturers fail to notify consumers soon enough about potentially dangerous products, the companies can be held responsible for injuries and lives lost. At Jones & Swanson, we have represented many victims and families who lost loved ones after a product became defective. The manufacturing company can be held responsible for pain and suffering, medical costs, and more if your case is handled correctly. If you have questions about a potential product defect or recall, call our experienced attorneys today at (770) 427-5498 or fill out a contact form online.
