Auto Accidents During Yearly High Traffic Days

Highest Trafficked Days Each Year

The temperatures are rising, the sun is shining and summer is finally here! Holiday weekends and beautiful weather bring with them many summer activities and adventures. But every year, increased traffic on highways leads to a higher possibility for auto accidents, drunk driving incidents, and motorcycle accidents.

During The Highest Trafficked Days Of The Year, Like Memorial Day, The Risks Of Being Involved In An auto Accident Increase.

You may have heard that the day before Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for travel, but summer weekends sometimes win the title for busiest trafficked days annually.

Memorial Day is the official kick-off for summertime travel. It’s safe to assume that airports will be brimming with people over the Memorial Day weekend and roads will be packed with cars of people trying to make the most of the long weekend!

July 4th follows close behind as another busy summertime travel date. Roadways and interstates will be congested, which oftentimes leads to a higher number of auto accidents.

Labor Day ends the season of summer travel as one of the last chances for families to vacation in warm weather, so there will almost surely be an excess of cars on Georgia roadways.

Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest travel holidays throughout the year. Whether traveling across the country or even just a few states away, no one wants to be away from family over the holidays. According to Statista.com, in 2019 a recorded 55.3 million people traveled over the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Christmas and New Years’ holidays are an extremely busy season for travel. Over 85 million Americans travel during the Christmas to New Year holiday season. Like Thanksgiving, no one wants to spend their day without family by their side. Christmas is also a good time to get away as a family with long weekends.

How Can You Stay Safe While Traveling During Busy Holiday Seasons?

  • Stay alert and aware of other drivers while driving.
  • Try to avoid traveling at nighttime and hours when it’s dark because visibility is obviously reduced.
  • Be cautious of drivers who may be swerving or driving erratically, as these may be signs of drunk driving.
  • Flying? Stay together when checking in, and give yourself plenty of time to arrive to the airport ahead of schedule. If traveling with children, it’s helpful to have one parent ahead and the other at the end of the group.

Regardless of the precautions we take, accidents happen. An increased amount of traffic on Georgia roads and highways can greatly increase that chance. Follow these safety tips to attempt to avoid auto accidents, pedestrian accidents and any other personal injury-related accidents.
