  5. 5 Ways to Prevent Auto Collisions

5 Ways to Prevent Auto Collisions

Auto collisions happen, sometimes no matter how much we try to avoid them. Especially in the metro Marietta and Cobb County areas where there are so many vehicles on roadways – which is even heavier in the summer months due to vacation travelers.

Different types of collisions, from rear-end collisions to DUI accidents or simple fender bender crashes can range in severity.

Safe Driving Can Go A Long Way In Improving Your Safety On Georgia Roads. Here Are Five  Tips On How To Prevent Auto Collisions:

  1. Keep your distance – Drive a safe distance from the car in front of you so that if they were to suddenly stop you wouldn’t rear-end them. It’s recommended to leave one full car length per 10 miles per hour you’re driving between your vehicle and the one in front of you.
  2. Don’t get distracted – Distracted driving is the number one cause of all automobile accidents. Distracted driving includes anything that takes your eyes or attention off the road (changing the radio station, texting, talking on the phone, etc.). Remember Georgia is a hands-free state, so holding a cell phone while driving is against the law. Learn more about the Hands-Free Georgia Law, at dds.georgia.gov.
  3. Use turn signals – Unsafe lane changes can be dangerous to you and the drivers around you. To prevent accidents use your left and right turn signals and always check your blind spots before changing lanes.
  4. Don’t drive drowsy – Exhausted driving is not discussed enough. Drowsy driving can be as dangerous as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Driving tired can cause similar side effects to if you were driving under the influence. If you find yourself at the wheel and wanting to fall asleep, pull over and take a quick power nap.
  5. Obey traffic lights and stop signs – Always come to a complete stop at stop signs and red traffic lights. Running a red light increases the risk for accidents or causing wrongful death because they can so easily cause side-impact or rollover collisions. To avoid these accidents, always come to a complete stop and look both ways for oncoming cars.

It’s important while on the road to pay attention to your driving and those around you. Stay alert so you can try to prevent any possible collisions that may occur.
