Local Fourth of July Events

With Independence Day just a couple of weeks away, many metro-Atlanta citizens are busy planning their 4th of July festivities. There are a variety of events going on around the Cobb County area, including the ever popular 4th of July on the Square event. First, an Independence Day parade will take place on the Marietta Square at 10 A.M. The rest of the day will include a celebration filled with live music, food, carnival games, arts and crafts, and of course, the fireworks finale.

This year, event coordinators expect over 80,000 attendees. The Marietta Independence Day parade will contain approximately 40 floats and 2,000 participants. It will start at Roswell Street Baptist Church and travel down Roswell Street, East Park Square, Cherokee Street, and end at North Marietta Parkway. There is estimated to be 100 arts and crafts vendors in attendance from 10 A.M. until 9 P.M., as well as concession stands selling every type of food imaginable. The Kid’s Zone will also be in effect until dark for children to enjoy themselves. The entertainment is sure to please as well. At noon, Scott Thompson will perform on the stage in Glover Park, and then the Bell ringing ceremony is scheduled for 2:00. The rest of the day will be filled with local entertainment. At 8 P.M., Greg Bates is scheduled to perform, presented by 94.9 The Bull. Finally, the fireworks display is scheduled to begin at 9:30 P.M. As usual, they will be shot from the First United Methodist Church parking lot, so make sure to get a good seat early, as traffic will be heavy.

If you will be near the Powder Springs Town Square, be sure to visit the Annual Independence Day Celebration taking place there. Admission is free and this event will not be quite as crowded as Marietta Square on the 4th. There is estimated to be over 15 food vendors in attendance, a stage for entertainment, and numerous children’s activities throughout the day. At the end of the night, a fireworks show is sure to be enjoyable.

This time last year, Jones & Swanson posted fireworks safety tips for readers. We hope that these tips remain beneficial to readers and we hope that everyone stays safe this 4th of July holiday.

As a personal injury law firm located near the heart of Marietta, it is important to us that our staff members stay involved in the Cobb County and surrounding communities. Many from our office will be attending 4th of July festivities around the metro-Atlanta area, so we hope to see you all there! Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of people celebrating on the 4th of July, injuries from fireworks, automobile accidents, and other incidents are inevitable. If you or someone you know is injured this Independence Day because another person was negligent in their actions, don’t hesitate to contact Jones & Swanson at (770) 427-5498 for a free consultation.
