Ford Motor Company is arguably one of the most successful car brands sold in the United States. Certainly Ford vehicles are purchased at a higher rate than just about any other type of vehicle in the U.S. This may be due to the large variety of vehicles offered by the company, price points, or safety features. Ford recently announced a recall of 2013 Lincoln MKS and Ford Taurus sedans, as well as Ford Explorer crossovers. This recall will include approximately 12,569 automobiles manufactured between November 29 and December 12, 2012. The vehicles’ defects involve their child safety locks. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the locks could potentially deactivate themselves without notice. This could lead to a serious safety concern, as the door would then be allowed to open from the inside. Child safety locks are typically activated by parents of young children that could pose a danger to themselves if they were to attempt to open the doors while the vehicle is in motion. Owners of these vehicles should soon receive letters from Ford via mail warning them of the potential risk. Dealers will replace these locks if a problem is exposed. Vehicle owners will not be charged a fee.
Other 2013 model Ford vehicles have been recalled recently as well. In June, Ford Motor Company announced a recall of approximately 465,000 vehicles due to a fuel leak that could lead to a fire. Ford vehicles included are the 2013 Explorer, Taurus, Fusion, Flex, and Interceptor Utility and Sedan. Lincoln MKT, MKS, and MKZ vehicles are also included in the recall. Although no incidents of fire or injuries have been reported as a result of the fuel leak, 600 complaints had been filed with the company at the end of March.
One of Ford’s best-selling sedans is the Ford Fusion, but it has experienced numerous recalls since the vehicle’s unveiling. Earlier this year, a recall on Ford Fusion vehicles was announced. The issue associated with the recall involves steering gears, which could increase the risk of a crash.
