Jones & Swanson Sponsors Helmet Safety Event

At Jones & Swanson, we take pride in being involved with our Cobb County community. We believe that by giving back to the citizens of Marietta and surrounding cities our community will be an overall better place to live. Both injury attorneys in our office, Andrew Jones and Chase Swanson, have served as leaders in various legal associations around metro-Atlanta including the Cobb County Bar Association, State Bar of Georgia, and Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. In addition to their commitment to these organizations, our legal team and attorneys have sponsored, volunteered, and supported numerous community events, some of which are listed below.

  • Served as Chairperson of the 2013 Sleighbells on the Square 5K Run/Walk, benefits of which support the Cobb Children’s Emergency Fund
  • Multi-year sponsor of Sleighbells on the Square 5K
  • Aided in organizing the First Annual Law Day Classic Golf Tournament, 2013
  • 6-4-3- DP Athletics Foundation sponsorship, which provides community outreach and scholarship backing
  • 2014 sponsor of Cops and Kids Program via the North Metro Fraternal Order of Police #13

In addition to the outreach efforts listed above, Jones & Swanson also recently partnered with Safe Kids Cobb County. This organization has been in place since 1991 and was created by WellStar Health System and Cobb & Douglas Public Health. The group is active in the Cobb County community by hosting safety events with the purpose of educating parents and children on the steps they can take to reduce the number of accidental injuries to young children. The organization hosts events such as car seat inspections, youth sports safety clinics, and other education events in community and school settings. This week, Jones & Swanson partnered with Safe Kids Cobb County at a helmet safety event at Marietta Head Start. The event provided brand new safety helmets for each child at the school, free of charge. Not only did volunteers hand out helmets to children, but an educational presentation was provided as well. The demonstration informed participants about the importance of wearing helmets anytime a child rides on bikes, skateboards, skates, scooters, or any other wheeled object. Then the children were taught how to determine whether a helmet fit properly. Finally, each child was fitted for a brand new helmet and took one home. We were happy to be a part of an event that had such an immense impact on Cobb County children and their safety.

Bicycle, skate, and skateboard safety is a topic on which every child should be educated. Unfortunately, less than half of all children report using a helmet each time that they cycle. In 2009 alone, more than 229,000 kids visited emergency rooms with injuries from cycles. These numbers are staggering and should motivate us all to take a more proactive stance in the protection of our children. Simply providing appropriate education can save a child’s life.
