  5. Defensive Driving on a Motorcycle

By Jones & Swanson | October 13, 2021

Defensive Driving on a Motorcycle

Riding a motorcycle can be exhilarating. There’s a lot of freedom that comes with cruising along the open roads with the wind in your hair, and there’s still plenty of time to enjoy motorcycles before cold weather arrives.

Unfortunately, this hobby also  comes with sever risks – like an increase in the possibility of injury if you’re involved in a motorcycle accident. Car accident victims experience injuries daily – but motorcyclists tend to experience the worst types of motor vehicle injuries.

Safely operating a motorcycle requires a precise skillset, including the ability to think quickly and use defensive driving at times as necessary. When you and your vehicle is much smaller than most vehicles around you on the roadway, you do have to be more cautious than your surrounding drivers.

Here A Few Tips If You Drive A Motorcycle, In The Hopes Of Preventing A car Accident Or motorcycle Accident:

1. Make Sure You’re Maintaining Your Motorcycle Regularly.

Before even hitting the road, it is important in driver safety to ensure proper vehicle maintenance. For motorcycles this can mean: choosing the right apparel, inspecting the cycle regularly, and being on the lookout for oil leaks, tire pressure dropping and fluid leaks. These are very important things to do before you ride and can be the difference life or death because a motorcycle is much less forgiving than a car.

2. Stay Educated On Driving Laws On The State You’re Traveling In.

Motorcycle laws and safety guidelines can vary depending upon what state you might be in. Want a refresher? Driving-tests.org has several state-specific exams that can test your knowledge and keep you up to speed. When it comes to laws for motorcycles and motorcycle safety, take the time to educate yourself regularly – especially when you’re traveling.

3. Aggressive Driving Versus Defensive Driving – How You Can Avoid Potentially Harmful Situations.

While the term ‘defensive driving’ may have a negative connotation, it can be an important skill to use in an effort to prevent auto accidents. By defensive, we don’t mean road rage – but instead your ability to operate a motor vehicle defensively enough to prevent a dangerous crash. Defensive driving is usually a measure to help avoid any potentially dangerous or accident related situations. Aggressive driving is categorized by sudden and un-signaled lane changes, calculated acceleration and deceleration. Avoid aggressive situations at all costs. A smaller vehicle can put you at a bigger risk for an accident if involved.
