Kennesaw Mountain Pedestrian Improvements Project

Trail scaled

Are you a Cobb County resident, frequenter of Kennesaw Mountain, or plan on visiting our office on Whitlock Avenue in the near future? If you answered yes to one or more of these – chances are you’ll be affected by traffic resulting from the Kennesaw Mountain Pedestrian Improvements Project.

The project is a joint effort of Cobb County, the City of Marietta, the National Park Service, and the Georgia Department of Transportation. It consists of new pedestrian improvements made of three 8-foot-wide to 10-foot-wide multi-use trails. The total project length will span approximately 3.85 miles, and 1.69 miles will be located directly within the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.

In other words, construction crews will be working on the roadways, causing delays. Check out Cobb County’s Weekly Travel Advisory for updates on all road delays caused by this project. All road work is taking place from 9 AM to 4 PM during weekdays on:

  • Cheatham Hill Road between Powder Springs and John Ward road
  • Dallas Highway/State Route 120/Whitlock Avenue from John Ward Road to the National Park Services access drive to the Illinois Monument
  • Burnt Hickory Road from Whitlock Avenue/SR 120 to the NPS parking lot across from Old Mountain Road

The project gained approval in 2016 but construction didn’t begin until 2021. Trail construction is estimated to finish in June 2023. When completed, these trails will benefit pedestrians and motorists by providing more safe walking areas, which will help prevent pedestrian accidents. This increased safety to pedestrians makes the temporary traffic worth it.

Unfortunately, Pedestrian Accidents Aren’t Always Avoidable. In Those Cases, Jones & Swanson Is Just A call Away.
