Hyundai has published a recall of over 421,000 vehicles in the United States because of a software issue that could cause the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system to activate unexpectedly. The issue stems from the software in the vehicle’s front-facing cameras. The car’s collision avoidance system may activate early and without warning, triggering the emergency brake earlier than drivers expect.
Some signs your vehicle may be affected include, but are not limited to:
- Sudden hard braking without an apparent cause.
- Warning lights related to the collision-avoidance system.
- Jerking at low speeds.
This malfunction may increase the risk of a rear-end crash from the vehicle traveling behind the recalled models. Hyundai has announced that all affected models are eligible to have the front camera software replaced free of charge.
