Multiple Fundraisers in the Works for KSU Hit-and-Run Victim from KSU

It is always upsetting to hear about hit-and-run accidents, especially those that occur in our home state of Georgia. Even more tragic are those accidents that cause injuries to citizens in our immediate community. You’ve probably read about the Kennesaw State University student, 19-year-old Emily Bowman, who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident on February 16th of this year. She is a resident of Woodstock. She and a friend were walking in the grass off the side of the road in Athens after celebrating a friend’s birthday when Bowman was struck by a pickup truck. The driver of the truck immediately fled the scene in his vehicle, but later turned himself into authorities. He is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and is being charged with multiple violations.

Bowman was reportedly taken to Athens Regional Medical Center and placed on life support. The 19-year-old sustained numerous severe injuries and doctors removed part of her skull to aid in reducing swelling. Fortunately, Bowman began breathing on her own and was recently transferred to Shepherd Center in Atlanta for rehab. The staff members at Jones & Swanson have been following her progress via the “Bows for Bowman” Facebook page. This page allows family members to post updates and photographs of Emily’s progress often and others to leave positive comments for the Bowmans.

One of the best things about coming from a small community is the support one receives in the face of tragedy. Since the accident, many companies, organizations, and individuals have provided support through donations and fundraisers. There are a few upcoming fundraisers planned to benefit Emily’s recovery and offset her medical costs. There is one tomorrow, March 23 from 10 AM until 2 PM at Envision Health Studio in Woodstock. There will be contests, raffles, T-shirts, bracelets, and bows for sale. All proceeds will go to medical costs for Bowman. On March 26 at 11 AM, another fundraiser will take place in Woodstock, sponsored by Mellow Mushroom. The restaurant plans to donate 10 percent of all sales to Emily and corporate will match up to $1,000. In addition to the sales percentage donations, there will also be #PrayForEmily bracelets and T-Shirts available for purchase.

We encourage all who are able to attend these fundraisers if possible. Serious injuries lead to staggering medical costs, so the Bowmans will surely appreciate any aid offered. If you have the desire to support her and help, these fundraisers are the appropriate way to do so at the current time. The staff members at the Jones & Swanson send our thoughts and prayers to Emily and the rest of the Bowman family.
