Latest Ford SUV Safety Recalls

Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair Recall

In a new statement from Ford Motor Co., the company is recalling thousands of vehicles manufactured at its two Louisville factories due to battery issues.

If you are reading this blog and have unaffected vehicles, we still encourage you to check out the NHTSA’s recall VIN search. All that is needed is your vehicle’s VIN number and it will direct you to a page showing all the necessary recalls needed and the severity of the issue. From there it will instruct you to contact your car’s manufacturer. If they are unable to remedy the issue in a timely manner, then you will need to contact the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline.

THE FORD ESCAPE AND LINCOLN RECALL

Ford has publicly announced it will recall more than 20,000 Escape and Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid SUVs due to a battery manufacturing defect. According to a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem occurred within the manufacturing facility due to variability in the supplier’s production process.

This resulted in defects that could damage the high-voltage battery cell’s separator layer, leading to a short circuit and possibly a fire. In the event of an internal short circuit, customers may also experience a shutdown of the vehicle’s propulsion system. This may lead to a loss of motor power, which can cause a crash and injury.

In the event of a short circuit, a “Stop Safely Now” message will appear on the instrument. The recall documents state that four reports have been made so far, but no accidents or injuries have been recorded.

Affected vehicles are plug-in-hybrid models with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and were assembled between July 10, 2019, and April 17, 2024. Ford had started notifying owners on January 20th with information on the next steps to take.

FIXES FOR OWNERS

Dealers will update the affected vehicles’ Battery Energy Control Module software so it can detect the problem, and if it is found, they will replace the high-voltage battery pack at no charge to drivers.

Owners of these vehicles can check the NHTSA recalls site or contact Ford customer service at (866) 436–7332.
