Just a stone’s throw from our office on Whitlock Avenue in Marietta, you’ll find The Butcher on Whitlock. This Marietta gem is owned by Chef Scott Grieve and his wife, Nancy.
We recently had the chance to sit down with Scott and Nancy following the shop’s fifth anniversary celebration to learn more about their journey and what makes The Butcher on Whitlock such a standout business in our community.

Who is Scott Grieve?
Scott began his culinary career as a teenager working in local restaurants. He then went on to attend the New England Culinary Institute and spent years in professional restaurants and hotel kitchens across the globe honing his skills.
In 2021, those decades of experience brought Scott to open the Butcher on Whitlock, where he and his team combine culinary expertise with the vision of creating something meaningful for their community
What does The Butcher on Whitlock Offer?
The Butcher on Whitlock is a one-stop shop for any occasion, like planning a quick dinner or picking up a meal for a crowd! Whether they’re helping customers select the perfect cut of meat, offering cooking tips, or recommending the right wine pairing, the goal of the team is to guide customers through the entire experience.
The shop’s selection of fresh proteins is extensive, featuring prime in-house dry-aged beef, house-ground burgers, wild-caught seafood, a wide variety of pork preparations, and pre-prepped marinated poultry, to name just a few. In addition, they offer many prepared meals, from a range of frozen appetizers, and everything you need to create a spectacular charcuterie board. You’ll also find fresh produce and desserts, local beers, and a thoughtfully curated wine selection to complete your meal.
The Butcher on Whitlock also offers specialty items for holidays throughout the year. They recently featured a corned beef and cabbage meal for St. Patrick’s Day and lamb for Easter dinner. During Thanksgiving, they plan to offer fresh turkeys, and at Christmas, customers can place orders for beef tenderloin, prime rib roasts, and ready-to-bake Beef Wellington.
If you’re looking to join them for a local event, the shop hosts weekly wine tastings every Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00. This allows customers to explore new tastes and discover their extensive wine collection that pairs nicely with their offered meals.
Another thing to love about The Butcher on Whitlock is that they offer discounts to military members, first responders, and educators in the community!
What does The Butcher on Whitlock think of the community in Marietta?
As a locally owned business rooted in their hometown, they play a role in this community that extends beyond their store. Scott and Nancy believe that success is not only measured by the quality of the products they offer but also by the strength of the community they serve. According to the Grieves, “Community involvement is not an obligation, it’s both a responsibility and a privilege.” That philosophy has shaped the way the couple and their business give back to the community.
In 2025 alone, their store has supported a wide range of nonprofit, educational, civic, arts, and service organizations throughout the community. Some partnerships include groups such as the Marietta Youth Museum, the Kiwanis Club of Marietta, the Center for Family Resources,
Scott and Nancy contribute countless volunteer hours and are active participants in local events and initiatives. You’ll find them serving meals at MUST Ministries, feeding local teams before the big game, and mentoring students through culinary competitions at Marietta High School.
As Scott and Nancy explain, “Every dollar, every hour volunteered, and every sponsorship invested locally creates a ripple effect. As our business grows, so does our commitment to giving back. Because when our community thrives, we all thrive.”
Jones & Swanson is thankful for the Grieves’ time during our interview, and can’t wait to see all the future events their shop will be a part of in Cobb County!
