Local Business Highlight: Pumpkinvine Gardens in Acworth, Georgia

Springtime is here and summer is fast approaching! If you’re local to the Cobb County area, you probably know this means Pumpkinvine Gardens Flower Shoppe is open for the season! This local Acworth, Georgia flower shop is approaching its fourth year providing beautiful plants, floral arrangements and garden decorations to the Cobb County community and beyond. As owner Michelle Robinson prepared for the spring season-opening, she took some time to speak with us about how Pumpkinvine Gardens began.

Q: TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

My name is Michelle Robinson, and I am the owner of Pumpkinvine Gardens Flower Shoppe, a seasonal outdoor flower market in Acworth, Georgia. Our spring season is April through July and our fall season is October through November. I transform our space in the fall with a pumpkin patch, festive décor and traditional fall flowers.

When I’m not playing in the dirt, which is my absolute favorite thing to do, I enjoy spending time with my two grown children and precious two-year-old granddaughter. My son lives in Manhattan, and I love visiting him during my off-season. I’m fortunate to have the rest of my family close by, and I treasure moments when we’re all together.

In my spare time, I love going to our place on Lake Weiss with friends, camping and relaxing on our boat. I could spend hours playing Blackjack at a casino or cards with my family. And I like binge-watching my favorite shows such as Yellowstone, Ozark and Married at First Sight.

Q: HOW DID PUMPKINVINE GARDENS FLOWER SHOPPE ORIGINATE?

After 29 years of being a healthcare marketing and a PR executive, I followed my dream and opened Pumpkinvine Gardens Flower Shoppe in April 2019. I was inspired by all the flower markets I visited in upstate New York with my son. My goal was to create a neighborhood destination for gorgeous flowers, plants and unique garden décor.

Q: HOW HAVE YOU ENJOYED BEING A PART OF THE ACWORTH COMMUNITY?

When I opened Pumpkivine Gardens Flower Shoppe four years ago, I was overwhelmed by our community’s support. I have so many regular Flower Shoppe friends, as I call them, and new neighbors that shop local year after year. I am incredibly grateful to have this level of support.

Q: WHY DO YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO?

Gone are the days when I have an hour-plus commute back and forth to work. My Flower Shoppe is less than five minutes away from my home! And instead of wearing corporate suits, I now enjoy wearing a whimsical dress and cowboy hat every day to work.

As the saying goes, if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. I truly pinch myself sometimes when I look at the garden oasis that surrounds me, and I think… this is my job! I’ve met so many amazing neighbors. And I absolutely love creating gorgeous hanging baskets and containers for their homes. When they are happy, I am happy! We’ve expanded our space this year to offer even more beautiful flowers and indoor plants.

Q: WHAT EXCITING EVENTS DO WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO?

With our fourth-year reopening in April, I am very excited for Pumpkinvine Gardens Flower Shoppe to once again be the community destination for flowers, plants and unique metal yard art. I love to feature local artists and offer their handmade creations in our Flower Shoppe such as painted stepping stones, gourds, earrings, candles and more!

The Paulding County Chamber of Commerce selected our flower market as Small Business of the Month last August, which was such an honor. I plan to exceed the expectations of our neighbors and show them how to have a green thumb!
