Two Juries Award Major Settlements in Roundup Lawsuits

The active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, has been connected to an increased risk of cancer. In fact, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has categorized the product as a “probable human carcinogen” since 2015, and the state of California also has glyphosate listed as a chemical that is known to cause cancer.

At Jones & Swanson, we are committed to helping clients who have developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after using Roundup seek the justice and compensation they deserve. Just last year, Roundup maker Monsanto was acquired by Bayer AG. In that time, there have been two significant plaintiffs’ wins in these types of lawsuits:

  • In August 2018, a San Francisco Superior Court jury awarded former area groundskeeper DeWayne Johnson $289 million. Mr. Johnson, 46, sprayed Roundup as often as 30 times a day in a four-year span of groundskeeping work.
  • In March 2019, a federal jury in San Francisco found that Monsanto’s glyphosate-based herbicide Roundup was “a substantial factor” in causing plaintiff Edwin Hardeman, a 70-year-old Santa Rosa man, to develop non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The jury awarded Mr. Hardeman $80 million after deliberating for only one day.
